What We Do
One in four people in the UK live with a mental health condition. That’s nearly 15 million people with an illness that affects their wellbeing, their relationships with family and friends, and their ability to work.
Rhythmic Health is a new charity set up by both dance and healthcare professionals. Our ambition is to use the power of flamenco dance as an early intervention for those with mental health difficulties.
Multiple studies have demonstrated that dance can improve mood and lower stress and anxiety levels. Dance is proven to be an effective adjunct to conventional treatments and in some cases can reduce, or even prevent, the need for medication.
Our aim is to provide dance classes, specifically flamenco, for a cross section of users with mental health disorders who may benefit from the service we are offering. The sessions will be supported by qualified psychologists, who will work with both the students and teachers to monitor safeguarding.
Participants will be offered supported dance sessions with validation questionnaires, both before and after treatment sessions, to ensure effectiveness and value, and to help us to further develop our service.
This innovative project has significant scalability potential so that we can help a larger target population.
